On December 8, 2020, Professor, Doctor of Biomedical Sciences Ilona Miceikienė (Lithuania) gave the guest online lecture «Genetically modified organisms in food production» at the Department of Bakery and Confectionery Goods Technologies.
The lecture was given to students of the Master’s degree, educational programs «Technologies of bread, confectionery, pasta and food concentrates» and «Technologies of organic food products» in the study of the discipline «Regulation of the use of food additives in various technologies and harmonization of European regulations in Ukraine on the path to European integration. Students of Bachelor’s degree in 181 «Food Technology», educational program «Food Technology and Engineering» also joined the lecture.
The lecturer spoke about the legislation in the field of regulating the use of food additives and genetically modified foods. Interesting was the information on genetic modification of plants, animals and microorganisms, on the production of food additives with the help of genetically modified microorganisms, methods of identifying modified products. At the end of the lecture, teachers and candidates of the department had the opportunity to ask questions to the professor.
The lecture was held within the framework of the Jean Monnet Module project «Regulation of the use of food additives in different food technologies and harmonization of European regulations in Ukraine on the path of European integration» of the Erasmus + program. The implementation of the project will contribute to joint research and study of the best practices of the European Union, which relate to food additives and genetically modified products.
